Age and Fitness
Like any martial art, there is an element of risk in training and although we have a long track record of no injuries in our classes, we are only insured to teach people over 18.
The intensity of classes varies from quite easy going, with a focus on technical detail, to breaking out the focus mitts and going nuts. You don't have to be super-fit to start with and while you are getting used to the movements you can take things at your own pace. As you improve you will find yourself getting stronger and faster, but also moving more easily and efficiently.
If there is something more than simply not being flexible enough then techniques can often be adapted to fit your abilities. We've trained with people with their arms in casts or metal pins in their legs. If you you have a specific question then contact us and ask!
What should I wear?
If you look in the gallery you will see we wear the traditional white dogi associated with most martial arts, however to begin with you can just wear clothes you can move easily in. A t-shirt and tracksuit trousers are most popular with newcomers.
In line with our focus on safety, you will have to take off all jewellery and make sure your finger and toenails are neatly trimmed. A fast moving foot can leave quite a nasty scratch!
I have another question...
If there is something we haven't covered here then contact us and ask us.
